The Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus, the German cultural centre in Lahore, is a cultural institute run by the registered foreign cultural society, the Pakistan German Society Lahore (PGSL) which boasts a board of members comprising, among others, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Pakistan, the Honorary Consul of Germany in Lahore and the Director of the Goethe-Institut Pakistan as well as many prominent and accomplished members of the civil society in Lahore.
The Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus is a partner of the Goethe-Institut Pakistan and the PGSL has signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Goethe-Institut for the purpose of promoting the bilateral dialogue between Pakistan and Germany through an extensive German language programme as well as through cultural events which we organise on a regular basis in the fields of theatre , music , fine arts and film. We provide material about current aspects of the cultural, social and political life in Germany and for those who want to travel to Germany, we provide information and tips to make your trip memorable and more interesting.
Our language department offers German classes for beginners and advanced learners on our modern and state-of-the-art premises where our classrooms are equipped with smart boards, overhead and media projectors and modern audio equipment. We are the only centre in Lahore where the Goethe-Institut conducts its central examinations on a monthly basis which is recognised worldwide. Our language programme including our curriculum, teaching material and our teaching methodology has been set up on the same lines as that of the Goethe-Institut and our teachers and examiners are regularly trained by the Goethe-Institut in workshops and training sessions in Germany and in other countries.
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. Through the network of Goethe-Institutes, Goethe Centres (such as ours), cultural societies and reading rooms, it performs the principal tasks of cultural and educational policy abroad. Together with the Goethe-Institut, we work in partnership with public and private cultural bodies, the German federal states and municipalities, and the corporate sector. We also work in close collaboration with the German Embassy in Islamabad in organizing cultural and social events.
The Annemarie-Schimmel-Haus has been sharing its premises with the Alliance Francaise (French Centre) since 2007. We not only share a common building, but we are partners in many other aspects including organising joint cultural events, running a cafeteria together and sharing staff, equipment and facilities. This collaboration helps us in portraying the deep bond that exists today between France and Germany and strengthening the “European” feeling of our institutes.
